UPERC grants Transmission License to Tata Power’s Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited

09.11.2024

Tata Power Company Limited (TPCL) has successfully obtained a transmission license for its special purpose vehicle, TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited, for a period of 25 years. This license was granted by the Ld. Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (Ld. UPERC) vide its Order dated 05.11.2024, in accordance with Sections 14, 15, and 86(1)(d) of the Electricity Act, 2003.

TPCL was awarded this license following its successful bid in a competitive bidding process conducted by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL). Notably, the project involves the establishment of two significant substations: a 400/220 kV GIS substation at Metro Depot (Greater Noida) with a capacity of 2×500 MVA, and another similar substation at Jalpura, also with a capacity of 2×500 MVA. These substations will be connected by associated transmission lines.

The construction of this transmission system is essential to accommodate the anticipated future demand based on load requirements identified by distribution licensees in the Greater Noida region. The grant of a 25-year transmission license to TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited by Ld. UPERC illustrates regulatory support for private sector involvement in power transmission projects. This initiative not only seeks to meet current energy demands but also positions the Greater Noida region for sustainable growth in its electricity infrastructure.

TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited was advised on the entire transaction from due-dilgence of the SPV, acquisition and representation before UPERC by our Managing Partner Mr. Shri Venkatesh, Mr. Ashutosh Srivastava, Counsel and Mr. Kartikay Trivedi, Associate.
