MoU Signed for Green Energy Projects between SJVN & IREDA

Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVN), a public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) which is a PSU under Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. The MoU suggested that IREDA shall provide its services to SJVN for Green Energy Projects. The MoU was signed by the Chief Managing Director (CMD) of SJVN and IREDA. As per the terms and conditions of the MoU, IREDA shall undertake the techno-financial due diligence of Renewable Energy (RE), energy efficiency, conservation projects for SJVN. Further, IREDA shall also assist SJVN in developing an action plant to create and acquire RE projects for the next five years.

Currently, SJVN, as made in a statement, is determined to reach the target of 175GW by 2022 set by the Prime Minister of India. In fact, steps have already been made in the direction for achievement of this goal. Presently, 100 MW Dholera Solar Power Project and 100 MW Raghanseda Solar Power Project in Gujarat have been undertaken by SJVN.

It has been stated that the MoU has been rafted with the intent to keep in line with the Prime Minister’s view of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. It shall facilitate knowledge and synergy between both organisations and also promote technology transfer and provide consultancy and research services which shall result in the promotion of sustainable development of the country.

MoU signed between India & USA for Mutual Benefit in Electricity Sector

On 16.12.2020, the Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, gave its approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), India and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), United States of America (USA) for exchange of information and experiences in areas of mutual interest to both in the electricity sectors.

Following are the activities that have been mentioned in the MoU which will help in improving regulatory and policy framework for developing efficient whole-sale power market and enhance grid reliability:

  • Visits shall be made by commissioners/staff to partake in activities organized at each other’s facilities.
  • In areas of mutual interest, energy-related issues shall be identified and agendas for exchange of information and regulatory practices shall be made.
  • Participation in seminars, conferences and promotion of such participation shall be carried out by both parties.
  • Programs of mutual interest and enhancement of such programs shall be made.
  • Speakers and managerial or technical personnel shall be appointed on energy issues when feasible.
